Utah State University Presents Fourth Annual Jazz Night at the Sky Club
Utah State University’s Skyroom Restaurant will be reminiscent of a 1930s jazz night club Feb. 15 and 16 for the fourth annual Jazz Night At The Sky Club. The evening includes elegant dining, jazz music and dancing. All profit will go to fund the Larry Smith Jazz Scholarship. A Student Dance Only night will be held Feb. 14.
“For those who enjoy an evening of fine dining and dancing to big band music, this event is pretty irresistible!” said Larry Smith, whom the scholarship is named for. “The dance music by the USU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra is scintillating, the food is excellent and the dancing is enjoyable. It is exciting to see Jazz Night at the Sky Club be so successful.”
While enjoying rich vocals and smooth jazz music, the Skyroom will feature a dazzling spread of delectable courses, commencing with a savory appetizer. Entrees include a pesto-crusted salmon with roasted potato fingerlings and asparagus tips, or a choice of three other entrees, including a vegetarian offering. Guests will enjoy specialty drinks such as lemonades, Aggie Sparkle, Lime Rickey or Shirley Temple.
Following dinner, the USU Jazz Ensemble and Orchestra and their vocalists will kick off the rest of the evening with the Big Band songs made timeless by jazz legends Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Bobby Darin, Billie Holiday and more. The dance floor will become a hot spot for the Charleston, Lindy Hop, Jitterbug and other dances nostalgic of the first half of the twentieth century. They will be joined by guest of honor Larry Smith, former jazz educator and noted saxophonist.
Tickets are $38, and are available at the USU Ticket Office in the Smith Spectrum until Feb. 11. The University Inn is offering a Valentine’s overnight package that includes two tickets to the show, a refreshing night stay in a comfortable room and a hot catered breakfast the next morning. A package for two is $149.95, before tax, and can be reserved at the University Inn & Conference Center toll free at 800-231-5634.
For more information about Jazz Night at the Sky Club, contact Walker Stahle at 435-797-0075. The production is a combined effort of USU’s Music Department, the Skyroom Restaurant, USU Catering and University Inn & Conference Center.
The first night, Feb. 14 is a Student/Public Dance Only Night (no dinner): $10 per couple or $7 per single. The other two nights, Feb 15 & 16 are elegant dinner, music and dancing, $38 per person.
