There's the wonderful love of a beautiful maid,
And the love of a staunch true man,
And the love of a baby that's unafraid-
All have existed since time began.
But the most wonderful love, the Love of all loves,
Even greater than the love for Mother,
Is the infinite, tenderest, passionate love
Of one dead drunk for another.

The human endocrine system is in the business of secreting hormones. Endocrine hormones are specifically the ones that go directly into the bloodstream when they're secreted, instead of going through any kind of duct first. Hormones are a sort of chemical messenger that travels in the bloodstream, and different glands make different kinds of hormones.
My favorite endocrine gland is the pancreas. The pancreas has other functions, too, but the part called the islets of Langerhans is responsible for secreting insulin, glucagon, and somatostatin. These three chemicals work together to manage the flow of glucose through the bloodstream and the body. If your islets of Langerhans get broken, you end up with diabetes.
My least favorite endocrine gland is the thyroid. Thyroid hormones regulate really basic-level functions, like the rate at which your body synthesizes proteins, and your metabolic rate. That makes it important to deterimining your growth rate. Thyroid hormones also affect how sensitive your body is to other hormones, which means if your thyroid is messed up, you're likely to get all kinds of hormonal imbalances.
The pituitary gland has the funniest name. It secretes all kinds of hormones, many of which control other endocrine glands– notably thyrotropin, which stimulates the thyroid. Growth hormone is also produced in the pituitary. Other pituitary hormones are responsible for your circadian rhythms.
Adrenal glands sit right next to the kidneys, and help them control sodium and potassium levels. They are also responsible for adrenaline and other hormones that control the fight-or-flight response.
Your parathyroid glands regulate the levels of calcium in your blood, which is very important to your nervous and muscular systems. Frankly, that's about all the parathyroid does.
