Reviews were quite positive. I am really excited about this venue. I think this could bring us back to the times of old when swing was hot and everyone wanted to come out. This venue has the potential to become like the Tropicana was back in the day.
Everyone come out next Tuesday. Rumor has it that alot of people are coming up from Provo already. Contact Thomas if you are interested.
So the BYU swing team is performing tonight. You should all come to studio 600 word on the street is alot of people will be there. It will be a great night of dancing everyone come out!
good times.
good job swing team!
Happy 2007 everybody!
We hope you had a safe and joyful holiday season in 2006 and are
refreshed and ready to get back on the dance floor. We'll be out
again at Studio 600 this Tuesday, Jan 2 from 10 til 1 am. Don't

free with a copy of this email. We look forward to seeing everyone out and hope everyone has a happy
and prosperous 2007.Tommy

Lake City.
Let me know if you need the email. [Emoticon not found]
Supposidly Silvia Skylar is choosing to teach her classes based on attendance of the dance tonight. I don't see how dance attendance and wanting to go to a class have anything to do with eachother but those who are interrested in classes with Silvia should go to Studio 600 tonight. (Jan. 16th)

Woooohooo I will be there. I hope to see some of you Provo kids up. It so much better when you guys come up! [Emoticon not found]
I found out where all the Provo kids went.
Where?
[Emoticon not found]
Yup... no one from Provo was there....I bet they were dancing some Blues at the Provo Swing House..... [Emoticon not found].... Maybe next time.
Yeah... good luck
Studio 600 is farther than the MAC and it's on Tuesday whereas the MAC was on Friday.
It was hard getting Provolones to the MAC. I dare say it would be nigh impossible to get people to go to Studio 600 (except on rare and special occasions)
Might dare ye say that it's near impossible to get them to do anything?
popthestack:Might dare ye say that it's near impossible to get them to do anything?
That takes place outside of a 5 mile radius of BYU.
BYU students aren't exactly made of time and money.
SpecialK:BYU students aren't exactly made of time and money.
yeah. they're made out of muscle and blood and skin and bones....
a mind that's a-weak and a back that's strong.
It's hard to compare the MAC to Studio 600.
Last night = prime opportunity to actually go to Studio 600 cuz there wuz no lessons.
Last night= weekday in which I have class until 7 and then dinner/errands/hw to do... not exactly an extra two hours to go to salt lake and back, not to mention dancing.

I'm curious what you're saying about the two venues here. I think the MAC had degenerated somewhat by the time I got there the first time last year. It gets more and more expensive and you can't do Lindy without someone going to the effort to setup a room. Which is part of the reason Shulie and Jane set up the skillet for the hard core Lindy folks.
Since I have very limited experience with WCS, and it's a bit of a trip up from BYU. I've only been to the MAC a couple of times.
What were the glory days of the MAC like Roach? What, (aside from a considerably cleaner, newer room and lower price) does Studio 600 have that the MAC doesn't or didn't?
Since I now work in Salt Lake, it's a lot easier for me to go to Studio 600 and the Skillet than BYU dances, but the latter will probably see me pretty often since I have more friends here.
Actually...
Studio 600 > MAC
... for a few reasons at least, imo.
I just can't do the Tuesday night thing during school since I have a whole day of grad classes on Wednesdays.
MAC in it's glory days was a lot of fun. We used to get quite a few people to head down there every week. I think the floors at the MAC and Studio 600 are comparable in both size and quality. Music is different styles so can't really compare them there. The one thing I think the MAC had over Studio 600 was a lot more good dancers (albeit WCS)
But then again it is West Coast and some people seem to think dancing West Coast is a heinous crime.
It's good to do west coast swing... if you can't do a proper lindy swing out.. then it's acceptable... bwaa ha ha ha ha [Emoticon not found] [Emoticon not found] [Emoticon not found] .. Yikes!! i'm going to get lynched for that one... If i don't come to BYU on Sat. tell my story to the people Buzz..
In my opinion, the floor at the MAC is way better than the floor at Studio 600.

haha, who says I won't be the mob leader?
I didn't see anyone getting mugged. Did I miss it?!
Yeah, well, I had tryouts until the end of the dance. Grrr...
Yeah I planned it that way.. I did peek in to your tryouts and saw your westcost routine
I saw some fast routine that a bunch of swingkids were throwin' down. Ya'll CAN dance fast!
Sweet!!.. who was dancing in it??
Haha, I don't have any of the West Coast routine choreographed just yet. But I do have the general idea of what I'm going for.
Dang it! You ruined the surprise!!
Hot Chocolate:Sweet!!.. who was dancing in it??
I remember seeing some people. I also saw some people screw up. It was pretty funny. ahahahha. No really though, it was pretty cool to see BYU kids dance somewhat fast. I'd like to see it happen more.
was it buzz's try outs... man i missed it
Me?? Dance fast?? Com'on now Chocolate, don't make fun.
You may have some fast dancing, but what you didn't see was the collapsed, sitting against the wall pose afterward.
And about the MAC....it had it's good old days once upon a time. But I think most of us went simply because Studio 600 wasn't around yet.
....and there definately needs to be more west coast in the scene.
I think it was Hot Chocolate's try outs that were the fast dancing.
Skirt:....and there definately needs to be more west coast in the scene.
Ack! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's already waaaaay too much west coast in our LINDY HOP scene. I don't mind a few west coast songs if they're played AFTER the dance is over as the "goodbye" music, but during the main dance? H-e-double-hockey-sticks no!
Woah....
Who said we have a Lindy Hop scene? I believe the common term is swing scene.
The term generally used IS swing scene, however it is definitely lindy-hop-centric....
[quote][cite] popthestack:[/cite]H-e-c-k no![/quote]
[Emoticon not found] [Emoticon not found] Oh my pops! Watch your mouth. Does your mother know what you do on this series of tubes?
Amen for a swing scene. I <3 [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ii9-nCNbMPw]West Coast[/url]!
Ti's true, I had a discussion about this with roach once at "The swinghouse" and Utah s not really a Lndy Hop place.. it is a so called "swing" place.. and west coast has a far stronger following here then Lindy... hence my constant travels to Seattle... Utah is more a scene where a dancer like Doug Silton would find favorable... that's my opnion anyway... and yeah Buzz is 70 % west coast
oh yeah.. in my opinion a little west coast goes a long way .. know what i mean??
Hmmmmmm interesting. Im sure that our scene has a lot of west coast influence but if you ask any of us to dance west coast we will just sit there stuned trying to figure out what in the world to do. On the other hand I understand that what dont do a pure form of Lindy. I think we tend to blend many thing into each other not a bad thing just a thing.
EDITED FOR CONTENT
I stand corrected there. most Utah dancers do not know how to west coast properly either.. I believe the scene is mostly experimental which is a lot of fun to watch because everyone is always trying somethng new. I myself was part of the experimental group in 2000. so i know what its like, I got tired of it later and moved on to being a more traditional 1930's Whitey's Lindy Hopper's Harlem style of dancing influenced mostly bt the movements of Al Minns, Leon James and Frankie Manning.. With a bit of Silver Shadows and Mike Faltesek thrown in for added flavor... whew!!... so when i say mostly west coast i am making a reference to the music mostly.. I just generalized and that was my bad
oh and melding all these dances together is never a bad thing if everyone is enjoying it.. I am just happy we have a dance scene at all. But as a Lindy Hopper.. (Refer to above long description ) I have found myself to be a lot happier and more supportive of the scene here since my transformation to Hot Chocolate [Emoticon not found] (this was due to my almost weekly travels to Seattle and Denver where a form of Lindy Hop (more suited to my individual taste because of my perticular style and preference as listed above) is more abundantthis makes it so i don't feel burned out... but i am really impreseed at how good utah's Lindy has gotten in the past year.. !!!
hey we coulddnt have done it with out you in the scene Hot Chocolate.
What are some things we could do to become a more pure lindy hopper. Ive really only been in the UT scene so im not sure what some of the differences would be? I understand music has a lot to do with it.
By a lot of definitions, in order to be a pure lindy hopper, you can't do any other dance.
Though I challenge this definition.
Goo post Buzz.. That is correct!! And I also challenge that definition as well... I will have to think about that one and post my opinion later...
So what would you call a mix of lindy hop and west coast??
A Lindistopperoast? Wo...say that 10 times fast...
I believe it is referred to as westie hop
So what exactly is "pure lindyhop"? I think this is the type of terminology that does nothing but start flame wars....
Well I'm not one to start any wars.. So I have EDITED MY POST FORCONTENT.. In order to appease the powers that be.. With that said, I will have to say that pure lindy hop is relative to the person speaking about it.. I am sure you can discuss that topic to death.. But in reality the only Pure Lindy Hop in my opinion was the one done by George Snowden.. However we all know that Lindy Hop, much like Jazz is like Gumbo.. If you don't know what that is look it up.. And Lindy Hop of then is not Lindy Hop of today... I prefer the Lindy Hop from the 30s to the one of today... don't ask me to explain that one it would just take tooooo long
As for the flaming wars... I think those are started by people who get to political and narrow minded about dance... they start sounding like World Rock and Roll Association... don't know what that is.. Lookit up as well.
Hot Chocolate:... being a more traditional 1930's Whitey's Lindy Hopper's Harlem style of dancing influenced mostly bt the movements of Al Minns, Leon James and Frankie Manning.. With a bit of Silver Shadows and Mike Faltesek thrown in for added flavor... whew!!...
Me too --> FOR EXAMPLE.
Mmm..mmm..mmmm. Good like Campbell's.. That's sweet dude... Grant does dance a bit like that.. Err.. I mean Roach... its cause he liveth in the swingeth houseth whereth all who dwelleth upon it are masters of their domain.. Hee heee
oh COME ON. this post ALMOST got interesting - then everybody had to start calming down and not wanting to offend others.
Alright then... I am the all and be all of all dances in Utah... if anyone has a problem that.. Go suck a lemon!!
