Get FTP like http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/ so you don't have to download each individual file.
It took me half a day to dowload 35gig of files from that site.
rofl! good idea, maybe it'll convert a few of them to lindy hopping.
popthestack:rofl! good idea, maybe it'll convert a few of them to lindy hopping.

[Emoticon not found] Weren't those vids sweet! Amazing dancing & choreography!
Here's a true, imo, cinematographic classic:
Those vids were pretty awesome... pure, unadulterated Savoy style. [Emoticon not found] Hey, thanks for putting those up, G-dawg.
Speaking of clips like that, I may not be too old-fashioned, but my favorite swing dance clip of all time is at http://jordantatianaswing.com/videos/2004_us_open.wmv. Take a look everyone; it's a good one.
Savoy style is where it's at! [Emoticon not found] Show me some more! (seriously) great tempo change there and the under the leg turns! SHOOT, I gotta learn that one!
Btw, I found a short video of PTS dancing.
I found a clip of Buzz and BtC doing the woogie boogie! Great footage guys! (seriously, the army guys playing music are awesome!
Word to PTS and Boogaloo!
"I believe they call it 'Woogie Boogie'..."
One word: Bojangles
t roach has the best video clips!
bobthecow:"I believe they call it 'Woogie Boogie'..."
You guys gotta learn that routine!
"Hoboken Tribe"
Btw, the movie is the Canterville Ghost 1944. Pretty fun movie actually.
T_roach:bobthecow:"I believe they call it 'Woogie Boogie'..."
You guys gotta learn that routine!
i was thinking the same thing. hooray for dudes dancing!
I found a video of chewy I think. Fourth couple in the swing jam.

T_roach:I found a video of chewy I think. Fourth couple in the swing jam.
by golly I think you're right!
bwahahaha!!! :chewie:
So is Chuy really some 50-year old swing master posing as a BYU student? [Emoticon not found]
Well that video was from like 3 decades ago, so now he's an 80-year-old posing as a byu student.
T_roach:Well that video was from like 3 decades ago, so now he's an 80-year-old posing as a byu student.
[Emoticon not found] Careful what you get yourselves into ladies!
perhaps he got old, went back to some other world, and came back younger again? kinda like narnia, but backwards?
Reminds me of the song "Rip Van Winkle":
"So if you want to swing and jive and the age of 95, start counting sheep and sleep like Rip Van Winkle."
Once you guys get that down, the girls should learn this.
T_roach:Once you guys get that down, the girls should learn this.
That would be cool, but maybe the girls should learn how to do a simple swingout right first. [Emoticon not found]

That would be HAWT!!!
california:That would be cool, but maybe the girls should learn how to do a simple swingout right first. [Emoticon not found]
That would be HAWT!! [Emoticon not found] Does that mean that Buzz and BTC have to learn to follow a simple swingout right first too?

i think i'm getting there...
T_roach:Does that mean that Buzz and BTC have to learn to follow a simple swingout right first too?
Truth be known, most of the guys here can do it better than most of the girls.
And what's being done about that? Do we need to have a girl-follow only workshop (with expert leads helping)? How many girls do we have that really are as good as any of the guys? I can think of at least a handful imo.
I think before that can or should happen, we need to try and correct the misconception that a lot of girls have when they start out that if "the guy knows how to lead and they can follow they should be ok"..... unless more follows realize and take to heart that although their is a lead-follow connection they still need to know their own steps and have a good understanding of the mechanics and theory of the dance we won't get anywhere.
I fear that some have not seen one of the most life-changing lindy hop captured on film in our generation -- MADDOG!
Download here.
Or here.
And a 4am swingjam to boot.
G4L's current sig prompted me to find this:
"At 14, I discovered girls. At that time, dancing was the only way you could put your arm around the girl. Dancing was courtship. Only later did I discover that you dance joy. You dance love. You dance dreams."
"I didn't want to be a dancer... I just did it to work my way through college. But I was always an athlete and gymnast, so it came naturally."
"The way I look at a musical, you are commenting on the human condition no matter what you do. A musical may be light and frivolous, but by its very nature, it makes some kind of social comment."
"In the 1930s, when I started, Martha Graham was the only dancer doing anything modern, but she did it all to classical music. I couldn't see myself doing Swan Lake every night, and I wanted to develop a truly American style. The only dancer in the movies at that time with any success was Fred Astaire, but he did very small, elegant steps in a top hat, white tie, and tails."
"I [was] twenty pounds overweight and as strong as an ox. But if I put on a white tails and tux like Astaire, I still looked like a truck driver... I looked better in a sweatshirt and loafers anyway. It wasn't elegant, but it was me."
"Any man who looks like a sissy while dancing is just a lousy dancer."
T_roach:"Any man who looks like a sissy while dancing is just a lousy dancer."
That's a great quote. I've totally got to use that. Thanks, G. (The other quotes were great too, but that one could be particularly helpful for me in teaching situations)
Agreed, I thought many would appreciate (need to hear) it =D

Lindy Hop now has a similar photo:
Savoy Ballroom 80th Anniversary Mar06 NYC
Peter & Caitlin, Skye & Sara, Andy & Nina, Todd & Naomi!
Same group minus Peter & Caitlin = THE SILVER SHADOWS @ ULHS05 (1st Place)
Or watch it here. Look & sound familiar, A-Team?? [Emoticon not found] Take notes you guys [Emoticon not found]
I need to learn some boogie woogie. Where's Marcus & Barbl when i need 'em.
That is a SWEET video.... some truly awesome moves in there...
T_roach:Skye & Sara
That would be Frida.
Check out this performance from DCLX
Peter and Naomi, Andy and Nina, Sky and ___, ___ and ___. If anyone knows their names that'd be super.
Pop, you're super!
Btw, OH YA! That was Freda eh! They did that little move from the medium-tempo final at ULHS.
Yeah, it's Frida that Skye does Silver Shadows with as well (ULHS performance).
What amazes me about these clips (silver shadows, the dclx one, etc.) is that they don't all live near each other. They must just throw this stuff together in a few days.
I guess when you're that good and perform that much it becomes easy. [Emoticon not found]
Todd & Naomi @ Savoy 80th anniversary thing
Check out how effortless their swingouts look...
To PTS, I know I was enjoying that one too! Nothing too flashy, but just plain GOOD!
btw, Silver Shadows -- I was looking at technique! Boogie Woogie -- I was looking at fancy footwork w/o disturbing the lead :o The "moves" were just extra.
For just plain technique I often get more out of the more casual clips, rather than the really fancy stuff. Same with watching the "rockstars" dancing in a social setting. I think the latter of those has affected my dancing more than anything else recently.
Hmm... are you saying that good technique at any tempo is still good technique? I still eat up the faster stuff ::drooool::
T_roach:Hmm... are you saying that good technique at any tempo is still good technique? I still eat up the faster stuff ::drooool::
Yeah, good technique is good technique no matter what. I love it fast, I love it slow (not too slow), I love it in between. I meant that it's often easier to see the good technique when the dancers are in a more relaxed situation.
eh... actually, the good dancers usually try harder to have better technique in competitions and performances. What I think it is that I like about watching the pros social dance is that they're more willing to do something risky. They don't care if they screw up. They try new things and most of the time look like like they're having more fun. Todd & Naomi and some others, however, always look like they're having fun.
popthestack:What amazes me about these clips (silver shadows, the dclx one, etc.) is that they don't all live near each other. They must just throw this stuff together in a few days.
I was thinking that's one of the main reasons maddog was so amazing. Somewhat interesting discussion on it.
