    from somewhere else:

    geek4life:

At least you learn something new every day.

so post something new you learned today. something exciting, something disturbing... something that everyone else already knows.

    i'll start.

today i learned that the biggest problem with using a cell phone as an alarm clock is that they don't have snooze buttons. whatever it was that you pushed, in your half dazed, still asleep state, that finally made it shut up, did exactly that. and it didn't go off again ten minutes later.

  1.

my cell phone has a snooze feature. I know, I pressed snooze on it for at least 3 hours one morning. However, the phone is retarded. You'd think the following would work:

    1. set alarm.

    2. alarm goes off.

    3. maybe press snooze

    4. turn alarm off

    1. set alarm

    2. alarm goes off....

But it doesn't. You see, the first 1-4 work fine, but setting the alarm again doesn't work. Well, it says it works and it says the alarm is on, but it never goes off again. I have to turn the phone off and back on for it to work again. Dumb! An application as simple as an alarm clock, and they screwed it up. Pathetic!

Ah! The beauty of buggy software in an embedded system.

it's better than buggy hardware. at least with software all it takes to fix it is a firmware update.

the lcd's going out on my cell phone, and neither Sony nor Cingular will replace it (they think i broke it). Oh well. switch to t-mo when my contract's up in a couple months, and i can get a free RAZR v3.

mine works just fine. i haven't tried hitting any button to make it snooze, but it snoozes and then goes off again fifteen minutes later just fine. and i can reset the alarm without turning it off. if only i didn't have to buy a special headset because nokia doesn't always believe in 3.5mm jacks.

I was a bit skeptical at first, but I really did get a free headset (if you don't count the $3 or so that it was to ship the thing)
