Some of you had the pleasure of meeting Glenn at Zanzibar, the Skillet or Byu last week visiting from Tokyo, Japan (originally from NZ). He'll be here till Saturday morning, so after a dead night at the Y (or so I hear), we need to show him a good, swingin time before he goes. Any ideas? Anyone know what "The Firm" is like?

Oh & btw, the word from the follows is that he's swell. And if you didn't know, Japan's swing scene is HOT!

I heard that Saturday wasn't the coolest. That sucks. However, this Saturday should be rockin'! (if he's still going to be in town, that is)

Sounds like the skillet is gonna represent, and a group (including some swing dancers from San Diego w/ Bryson) are going to Zanzibar Thursday night.

I think we should see if we can get those guys down in the venue that we went to last night. The location is awesome... it was just the band that needed changing....

Yeah, I figured that as well, but maybe we can get the management to organize a better swing event... not some faux-swing/ballroom dance...

but remember how amazed all the faux-swing/ballroom kids were when we were just doing swingouts in the jam circle? there are benefits to sharing dance floor with people that don't know what they're doing.

Don't be too proud there bob. How will they ever know the truth and become enlightened dancers if we are too condescending and haughty to show them the way. Granted they would need to show some humility, 'Unlearn what they have learned', etc.

eh. you have to start from somewhere. street swing and triple steps are better than nothing, and they have a desire to learn, which is the most important part i think. have you ever tried to teach someone who does not want to learn? like when girls drag their boyfriends to free lessons? not fun for anyone involved.

    Clay:

    Hey All-

I'll be back up there this weekend- and I'm bringing my wife this time! We're planning to hit First Friday, but what is the word on Saturday? Are many people planning on going to the thing in Ogden, or is it the perennial favorite BYU?

Btw, the "thing in Ogden" is this:

    > We want to extend an invitation to the SwingUtah crowd to attend the

    > Dinner/Dance event happening in conjunction with our Swing 'n Dixie

    > Festival. Saturday night, September 2, the New Deal Swing Band will

    > perform a dance/concert in the ballroom at the Ogden Eccles Conference

    > Center.

    >

    > The normal price for this event is $35.00. It includes a fine New

    > Orleans style buffet dinner beginning at 7:00 PM. We will extend a

    > special price to any of your membership who want to attend at $25.

    >

    > There is also a dancing only pass being sold at $10.00. this is also

    > available.

    >

    > Thanks for you help in publicizing this event.

    >

    > H. Chris Sorensen

    > Theater Manger

    > Peery's Egyptian Theater

    > ofc (801) 395-3222

    > cell (801) 510-9353

    > Fax (801) 395-3307

    > hcsorensen@weber.edu

New Deal = Saturday night band from the exchange.

$10 is fair for dancing to New Deal. Since I just got back in town, I think I'll try for First Friday, and seeing who's back in Provo in the KMB Saturday night though.
